Community Activists are Assholes

At least the ones in Western Service Workers' Association are.

This is a small-scale organization operating in Santa Cruz. I'm sure they have the best of intentions, but somehow they've been programmed to tune out the real world.

I had called them just to make sure they knew I was coming to do a project on community activists last Thursday night. The respondent told me that she was going to call me back. Three hours and still no answer, I called those bastards and they told me that it would be great to come in on any day of the weekend. We agreed on Sunday, and I subsequently sent an E-mail to all of my group partners in anticipation of the coming events.

The first time one of my group partners, Jaych, and I went there, we weren't really prepared, but we did have some legitimate questions to ask. I even donated 6 bucks from the last time I went there. In response, this tall, skinny deformed face bitch behind a counter gave us a long shpiel about how she didn't see how helping us would "feed more people, get more members, etc." Then a sort of nice old lady took over from there and told us that we COULD come back on Wednesday 9:30. She was even iffy about that. I was mad we didn't get anything accomplished.

So just this morning, we were there at Wednesday 9 o' clock with all those Western Service people there. As Jaych and I walked from the bus stop, I saw the stout Western Service Dude wobbling to McDonalds for napkins. About 3 minutes later, he creeps up behind us and tells Jaych, "excuse me" and I say "cool whatup man." We follow him into the office and right away he asks me "if he could just set up an appointment." He knew I was coming, I called his ass and spent a solid 15 minutes with him on the phone. . .

This time I come super-prepared with 4 sheets of the same survey questions for various workers there. I told him that it would take only 4 minutes to answer these survey questions I had prepared. He took about a minute to look at it and decided that those answers could be figured out when we came there on Saturday and observed. He gave me the same shpiel that he didn't see how answering MY project questions would help "feed more people, get more members, (insert more stupid rubbish here)." As my last resort staring straight at the people in the back and that "sweet" old lady, I asked if anyone else was busy and could spare 4 fucking minutes answering questions. The stout motherfucker gave a wry smile, and nodded, "No, I don't think so."

Fucking chump motherfucker. Oh wait, scratch all the "fuck" in the last sentence cause he seems about as active as piss in a toilet.

I completely understand that our project wasn't their first priority. But I had made some albeit informal, prior plans with them especially for those interviews. I collected 6 bucks for them believing that it would go straight to helping their small-scale piece of shit get off the ground, but it was used for gas. I even canvassed with them once, more than any other groups who will just sort of walk into their organizations. During that canvass (going house-to-house asking people if they want membership), we went through like 50 houses and collected a grand total of 20 bucks. Yeah, way to help the community, jackass. Thanks for wasting my time. I did not expect to get turned away a second time at all.

Activists are supposed to be altruistic, but these fuckers are what give the activists a bad image. They're heads are stuck way up their asses that it makes inmate rape look like a picnic. It's no wonder they're still a small-scale organization --- they alienate anyone who doesn't do what they want them to do. It's what our community activism class terms as "repressive benevolence."

Oh yeah, those Western Service Workers Association wanted promotion, so here's your promotion, bitch:
