Increase Your Brain processing power now!...Exercise!...Only 19.99 a month (unless you don't feel the need to give away the pieces of paper you earn to be trapped in the perpetual dick-waving contest called "gym membership" inside a box full overpriced equipment full of self-masturbatory narcisstic blowhards, and constipated-looking testosterone-blooded fuckheads.)
Maybe the next time you take a standardized test, instead of studying, you really should just take a run.
I notice that after every run I take, the music that ordinarily sounds fast, sounds much much slower after a run.
This is because the brain and it's left-brain functions are working fast.
From the NY Times Opinion"In humans, exercise improves what scientists call “executive function,” the set of abilities that allows you to select behavior that’s appropriate to the situation, inhibit inappropriate behavior and focus on the job at hand in spite of distractions. Executive function includes basic functions like processing speed, response speed and working memory, the type used to remember a house number while walking from the car to a party."
What they're saying is that the brain works at a high level after a run or vigorous exercise.
It appears that the parts of the brain that do get enhanced are the ever-valued left-brained functions.
The left brain is the part of the brain that is logical, detail-oriented, and fast.
In philosphical terms, with the left brain you're examining the parts, not the whole.
In everyday terms, it's the part of the brain you use to make deductions in logic during the SATs, and making quick distinctions between wrong answers from right answers.
It makes quick decisions on the gun, on-the-go, on-the-fly. The part of the brain that doesn't become distracted and focuses on a task. You can see why it is heavily associated with maledom.
During vigorous exercise, you'd be training your brain's ability to make decisions in real time, on the gun, on-the-go, on-the-fly. Everything in your body is working according to that time-sensitive orientation. Everything is working fast. You're training your brain to recognize things in sequence, so that you improve your response/get better at what you do each time.
With everything working faster, your stimuli, such as the music I listen to, can be simplified to sound slower or look less than it is.
Left-brain, Right-BrainWhile exercising has shown that it can increase your brain processing speed, and can stave off dementia and shrinking of some other parts of your brain, I wonder what exercise can do for critical thinking, and the right-side of the brain though (right-side and critical thinking, heh, heh, now isn't that an oxymoron.)
Perhaps exercise stops critical thinking? Perhaps that's why some folks from France hate it when their president Nicholas Sarkozy goes out for his runs. Heck isn't GW Bush in the top 1% of his age group for fitness levels?
Maybe that's why Michael Moore is pretty damn on point, most of the time.
Or perhaps why the linemen in American football are considered the smartest group of players.
Perhaps that fat sedentary bastard you see cleaning up the donut store is actually preparing the next and last definitive iteration of Principia Matematica.

My Neurons

Yeah, 9/11 was yesterday. Sad.
But anyway,
On to one psuedoscientific theory of mine (which reads more like a post for me to inspire me).
Neurons keep firing when you think. (At least that's what I heard while half-listening during one of these depressing, gloomy kind of days that kinda resemble the music video and mental images proudced by "Stan" by Eminem.) But as most people know, we all think at different rates. So to represent how we all think, I divided people into two categories people fall into: the thinker (slow-wit) and the doer (quick-wit).
Phenotypically, it appears that the doer thinks faster, when in actuality the thinker's mind is pumping more thoughts. However, the doer simply does things with less questioning. On the other hand, the multitude of thoughts makes the thinker hesitant to respond as quickly and then subsequently appear slow-witted.
Since I consider myself more of a thinker than a doer, I theorize that (without having taken any neuroscience classes and only a basic psych class in high school in which we touched on this subject) my neurons are plenty, scattered, tiny, and thick little things effective for thinking. The reason they are plenty and scattered are because my brain has had too much time to the point where it breaks down and analyzes every little thing and every little possibility.
Since they are plenty and scattered, it's initially hard for me to make even what most would consider the most basic connections. For example, it has been really hard (meaning it takes longer than usual) for me to understand math. But once I get it, I get it. And get everything else about that concept too. Sign, seal, and deliver it. This is where the thickness of the neurons comes into play. Since those neurons are thick, the knowledge it carries will be firmly implanted so that it doesn't get knocked around, and with that thick base the knowledge grows exponentially until I move on to a new topic.
In contrast, the doer's neurons seems like it consists of these lines of already-connected neurons effective for connecting things quickly. They need it if they're going to act on what they know right away. I think these are the people that are more mathematically inclined or get match much quicker and try to apply their thinking in terms of variables to humanistic things like politics. However, their mindset when it comes to politics tends to bend and curve.

Theory on Growing Tall

Growing tall is something that I have wondered about since my sophomore year in high school because I am Asian and I'm not that tall. At that time, I also read a lot of ESPN the Magazine, even when they shitted on the Chicago Sports Teams. ESPN the Magazine had a lot of unique articles about individual athletes, their personal lives, and how they've dealt with adversity. Some of those articles talked about how these individual athletes were undersized as high schoolers, but eventually grew much later in their athletic careers.
While I can't really find and divulge the bodily activities that help growth without forking over a few bucks to some stupid program, I can shed some light on a trend that I have noticed through these ESPN the Magazine athletes and these growing taller websites done through a
google search. It's called exercising. But the question is, what type of exercising can stimulate the human growth hormone.

So first, here's the best I can do with describing the human anatomy aspect of growing taller

Brian Urlacher, NFL - Chicago Bears ! - 5'9", 160 lbs as a college freshman to current 6'4", 258 lbs as an NFL star athlete.
Drew Bennett, NFL - Tennessee Titans - 5'4", 93 lbs as a high school freshman to current 6'5, 203 as an NFL athlete.
Michael Jordan, NBA - You Know ! He'll always be a Bull. - 5'9" as a high school freshman to current 6'6 as an NBA star athlete.
Steve Francis, NBA - Houston Rockets - 5'3" as a high school sophomore to current 6'3" as an NBA athlete.
Avery Johnson, NBA - Retired - 5'3" as high school senior to current 5'11 retired bum athlete.
I stopped reading ESPN the mag about 2 years ago, so that's all I've got. But it seems that the people to grow fastest late in their development stages are from the NFLers and NBAers.
The trend is that these athletes do some type of activity that stimulates the growth hormone in the pituitary gland. My theory is that these guys grew taller because of the speed drills. Every one of these athletes are considered to be great run-jump athletes. And this program provides more of a springboard to this thought of human growth as it promises to play on exercises that would stimulate growth:
"The exercises included in this program will stimulate overall growth and height gain, function to structurally lengthen the spinal column, improve posture, and straighten any excessive curvature of the spine. Moreover, other powerful benefits such as greater health, stronger back and abdominal muscles, increased flexibility, and the alleviation and prevention of lower back pain will also transpire."
And a little blurb about sleep, which isn't mentioned in any of the athletes' profiles, but played a big part in my growth "spurt" in high school.
"Sleep is one of the most important components involved in stimulating growth and increasing your height. Here's a small sample of secrets you'll learn about sleep:
- how you can wind up being half an inch to a full inch taller after a full nights sleep
- why sleep is essential to increase your height and maximize your growth
- why the spine lengthens during sleep
- how much sleep you need to get in order to obtain a positive impact on your growth and recuperation
- what 2 beneficial events are triggered by sleep that are directly involved with growth"
So for now, the best advice to growing taller free of monetary charge is to exercise with the intention of getting stronger and quicker as opposed to gaining endurance (to be saved until age 28), eating and drinking proteins, and finally resting as much as possible.
